Sworn Translation with Apostille DIRCO. Apostille is the facilitated certification of public/ sworn translated documents for their use globally and internationally in all nations that are a part of The Hague Convention’s Apostille Section. South Africa, since 1995, is a member of the Convention that abolished the requirement of legalization of foreign public documents. The department in charge of issuing Apostille in South Africa is DIRCO, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
DIRCO can issue Apostille for personal sworn translated documents like birth/death/marriage certificates, Affidavits, Power of Attorney, etc. Sworn Translation with Apostille DIRCO and educational documents like degree, diploma, matriculation and secondary level certificates etc. Any document Apostilled in one-member country is acceptable in all the other 104 member-countries thus greatly simplifying the process of attestation by making it needless to get the documents attested in each or for each of the countries separately.

PROCEDURE
Step 1 – Certification of Documents at High court
The High court must first verify all original documents which require Apostille from DIRCO.
Step 2 – Authentication of Documents by DIRCO
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) thereafter, on the basis of the signature of the designated authorities of State Government, affixes Apostille sticker on the back side of the original documents.
