SAQA Evaluation of foreign qualifications certificate is an official document That confirms the recognition of an overseas qualification and its comparable level in South Africa, based on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Act. SAQA evaluations are for general purposes and aim to assist individuals by helping organisations understand the educational level of an overseas qualification in the South African context. This may be the case when you apply for admission to an educational institution for further studies; for professional certification, licensing, or registration in a regulated occupation; for a job with a prospective employer in the country.
As part of the SAQA verification process, you will be asked to provide proof of your academic credentials, which might include:
- diploma(s) or degree certificate(s)
- transcript(s)/mark sheets/index
- detailed course outline(s)
If the documents are not in English a sworn/certified translation will be required.
SAQA will assess your previously completed academic credentials. Through this process, they:
- verify the authenticity of your documents;
- compare those with similar credentials issued in the provinces of South Africa;
- award transfer credits (if applicable).
It is strongly recommended that you gather all supporting documents while you are still in your country of origin to facilitate the process.
SAQA’s recommendations are intended as general guidelines and are not binding on other institutions (employers, professional councils, education and training institutions and the like). Such institutions should see the recommendations as a point of departure and as clarification of structural comparability, which allows them to embark on a further, context specific assessment taking content and/or learning outcomes into consideration
